Pigmy Portrait

The Story behind the Shot

”I have been lucky to be able to travel a bit and to photograph some spectacular animals underwater. One the hardest ones to shoot is the Pigmy Seahorse: Seahorses are known not to be incredibly camera-friendly, so imagine one that is about the size of a grain of rice and hates light. Focusing on these guys is extremely hard, but with a bit of time and a lot of patience you can get amazing results.”

This picture was taken in May 2022 in Tulamben, Bali.

This picture is featured in the Sony World Photo Competition 2023, being shortlisted in the Open Wildlife Categories. It is being exposed at the Sommerset House in London and will appear in the book of Picture of the Year of Sony.
